My Honest Review of the Twin Z vs. Twin BrestFriend Pillow

By Allegra Gast, RD, IBCLC | Founder of Aloha Nutrition

Just last week, I met a new twin mama in my area and passed along two of the most bittersweet items from my postpartum journey — my two twin pillows: Twin Z Pillow and my Twin BrestFriend Pillow.

As I handed them over, my heart swelled. We just hit one year postpartum, and I can hardly believe we’re already here. The twin haze is real — and for any mama in the thick of those early days right now, I just want to say: it does get better. Still hard, yes — but better. I promise.

My Twin Mama Beginning

When I found out I was having twins, I remember feeling everything all at once: joy, shock, fear, excitement… and, if I’m honest, a little bit of panic. As a registered dietitian and lactation consultant, I knew the importance of postpartum nourishment and breastfeeding support. But nothing can quite prepare you for two babies needing you at the same time.

In those foggy, sleep-deprived days, the right gear was everything — and those two pillows became my lifelines in different seasons.

Now that I’ve packed them away, I wanted to share my honest review of each, for any twin mom out there trying to decide between them. Here’s my take:

Twin BrestFriend Pillow

My ride-or-die in the early days.
This pillow is structured, supportive, and secure — exactly what I needed when my twins were newborns and everything felt unsteady.

Firm and flat surface — kept both babies in position for tandem nursing
Wraps tightly around your waist — offering real support (and even a little back relief!)
Hands-free potential — which is huge when you’re figuring out your feeding rhythm

I recommend the Twin BrestFriend especially for mamas trying to establish nursing early on. It’s not cute or cuddly, but it works.

Twin Z Pillow

As my boys grew, the Twin Z became our go-to for bottle feeding and lounging.

Softer and more flexible — which meant we could shift it into different positions
Great for lounging — when one baby just wanted to hang out near me
Doubles as a tandem bottle-feeding helper

Now, I know some moms swear by the Twin Z for nursing — and I love that it works for them! Personally, I never got a great latch with it. It just wasn’t firm enough for the support I needed during tandem breastfeeding. But once my boys had a bit more head and neck control, it became our cozy cuddle pillow for all kinds of moments

My Honest Recommendation

  1. First 6–8 weeks: Go BrestFriend. Stability > everything.
  2. After head control improves: Transition to the Twin Z for bottle feeds, lounging, sibling story-time props—you name it.
  3. If budget allows: Having both really does cover every stage; if you must choose one, decide whether you’ll mostly nurse (BrestFriend) or bottle/lounge (Twin Z).

So Which One Should You Choose?

If you’re early postpartum, trying to tandem nurse and craving stability:
👉 Go for the Twin BrestFriend.

If you’re looking for versatility — bottle feeding, lounging, and baby support:
👉 The Twin Z might be your best friend.

Truth is, we used both, just at different stages.

A Sentimental Goodbye

Selling these pillows felt like closing a chapter. It’s wild how a piece of foam and fabric can hold so many memories. The hours spent feeding, soothing, adjusting… sometimes crying (me, not the babies 😂). These pillows were there through it all.

To the new twin mama who bought them — I see you. You’re in the thick of it now, and I promise: it won’t always feel this overwhelming. You are doing an amazing job.

And to every mom reading this: one day, you’ll pack these things away too. And it’ll hit you how far you’ve come.

You’ve got this, mama.
