Although breastfeeding is natural, breastfeeding isn’t easy and many mothers encounter breastfeeding problems within those early days. Many pregnant women think they can just “wing it” or that the hospital lactation consultants will be there to teach them. They don’t bother educating themselves beforehand about breastfeeding. But in reality, the hospital lactation consultants are only with you for 15 minutes if that! Prenatal breastfeeding education, is the number one indicator for breastfeeding success.

Many hospitals only have 1 or 2 lactation consultants and you typically have to request to see one, and often times you don’t even get to see one, while you’re in the hospital. As a result of this, many woman discontinue breastfeeding early.

The more you know about breastfeeding beforehand, the more prepared you’ll be for that first feeding. By educating yourself beforehand, you’ll know what to expect when your baby starts crying. You’ll know how much milk your baby needs, how many wet/poopy diapers your baby needs, plus more.

Women go through hours of birthing classes and touring the hospital facility, which is great, but that only prepares you for one day. Hospitals may have prenatal breastfeeding classes, but most times by the time your baby arrives, you have forgotten the most important information.

Breastfeeding is a journey that you’ll want to be well prepared for.
